Community Outreach & Public Relations Workgroup (COPRW)

The Community Outreach & Public Relations Workgroup develops a communications plan and guidelines. Once it is approved, the COPRW will implement the plan and promote the goals of OCTC and report regularly to the Community Board.

The COPRW is responsible for: a) engaging key stakeholders and the community in the process, b) "selling" OCTC to the greater community, and c) educating and updating Key Leaders, stakeholders, and the public about the work of the Community Board. This Work Group will work with other Work Groups to prepare and disseminate all press releases, drafts and final documents, and other communications with the public.

The COPRW is perfect for anyone with interest and expertise in community mobilization, public relations and media and other community experts or "gatekeepers" as needed.

Youth Development Workgroup (YDW)

The Youth Development Workgroup will work actively to involve families, parents and youth in all aspects of the activities associated with the coalition. They will reach out to the youth groups of faith communities, the youth court, schools, youth organizations and youth at large within the community. The YDW is primarily responsible for recruiting and engaging youth in all aspects of the OCTC effort. They will work with other Work Groups to identify diverse roles for young people and to identify necessary skills, training and appropriate recognition for youth.

Participants of the YDW will include community board members and others with interest and expertise in youth involvement.

Resource & Strengths Assessment Workgroup (RSAW)

The Resource & Strengths Assessment Workgroup will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and pursuing additional resources to support programs and activities of the coalition. The RSAW will also inventory and assess existing resources addressing the community's identified priorities and strengths. It will also identify gaps in the response to risk and protective factor priorities.

The RSAW shall work cooperatively with the Board to determine specific resource development events and activities.

Participants of the RSAW will include community board members with knowledge of community resources, other community experts as needed and representation of all major service providers.

Risk & Protective Factor Assessment Workgroup (RPFAW)

Risk & Protective Factor Assessment Workgroup has these seven primary functions:

1. collecting risk and protective factor data for analysis
2. analyzing the data to identify priorities
3. facilitating the prioritization process with the Community Board and/or stakeholders
4. collecting archival data
5. collecting alternative data
6. organizing and analyzing the data for prioritization
7. working with the Community Board to implement surveys.

Participants of the RPFAW will include community board members with expertise in data collection and analysis, other community experts as needed and representation for all major data systems - e.g. school, law enforcement, health and social services.

Funding Workgroup

The Funding Workgroup is primarily responsible for identifying funding needs and coordinating and facilitating the acquisition/brokering of resources, including public and private funds for the planning process as well as for the implementation and evaluation of specific programs, policies and practices identified for implementation. The Funding Workgroup will develop a long-term funding plan, identify potential funding sources, conduct grant writing as necessary and communicate with the funding sources.

Participants will include community board members with knowledge of local, state and federal funding, other community experts as needed and persons who have experience in fundraising and grant writing.
